ERTMS Regional concept is the outcome of a close co-operation between UIC and the Swedish Infrastructure Manager Banverket since 1998. This concept aims at defining a full track side system for regional lines based on and fully compatible with ERTMS system.

The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is a single, EU-wide signalling and speed control system that ensures interoperability between national railway systems.

The ERTMS Users Group focuses its activities on ETCS and the ETCS related part of the ERTMS and GSM-R rules are published in the Operation and Traffic Management TSI. ERA plays the role of system design authority for ERTMS. In that respect, it must establish a transparent process to manage, with the contribution of the sector’s representatives, any system changes. The Operational Simulator can be used for many purposes, and one of them is training.
